Last weekend, we got a chance to check out Leah Marie (http://www.purevolume.com/leahmarie) at The Red Light Cafe in Atlanta, GA. We got a sneak peak of her new project BAIR. The video explains it all. Enjoy!
Editors Pick
The Planes – The Planes
The Planes formed in Brooklyn NY in the summer of 2010, releasing their first album in July this year – self-titled ‘The Planes’.
Their website proudly proclaims that the album was “recorded on 1/4” tape in a busy practice building, and mixed, mastered, and duplicated exclusively by the band”. One finds this fact very easy to accept.
Also, if you are in the SouthEast, be
sure to check out
The Hijacking
Music Festival taking
place on November 12 in Atlanta, GA.

Eastern Phoebes – Wampum
Eastern
Phoebes’ bizarrely named Wampumalbum
is introduced with ‘John Boyle Island (Wampum),’ where a
gentle and balmy laziness to the vocal delivery
compliments the layers of percussion and keys perfectly
along side some cute harmonies. A promising song from a
band who intriguingly decided to use toy instruments on
many of their songs, as well as the more traditional but
rather obscure melodica and Autoharp.
Prospecto Musical Showcase – Day 1
The
second year of the Prospecto
Musical Showcase in
Downtown Grand Rapids had a few really great moments
that I will attempt to chronicle. The showcase
included four stages in three venues at the Intersection,Pyramid
Scheme and Founders
Brewery. I spent the first night trying to check
out as many bands and artists for Indie Music
Reviewer. The result? Several bands started to blend
together. There were a few bands that stood out
above the crowd on Friday.
Poltergeists – Movements
Delving
into ambient low-fi music: Movements by
Poltergeists. This album is a solo project
by Bristol-based graphic designer Joseph
Parsons, an album based on “religion, love
and abuse”. The low-fi aesthetic of this
album is well accomplished, with the use of
fairly basic synthesised sounds and often
unpolished vocal tracks. The low-fi and
ambient combination works well, with these
raw sounds heavily affected by long delay
and reverb to create a looping aural
sensation.
